Six beautiful pith paintings from Asia are offered here. The paintings are very striking in their vibrant colors and translucency.  They glorify century-old ways of Asian life and labor.  In the first half of the 19th century, it became common for Europeans to collect small, attractive water color paintings by Chinese artisans.  In this kind of painting, the human and animal figures were depicted on pith, a sort of papyrus of the Orient. The painters would use a special knife to cut thin slices of the stem of the Tetrapanax papyrifer plant, then apply water colors.  Pith’s ability to absorb water would alter the surface characteristics of the paint, creating an attractive embossed surface.

I will part with the group for $300, plus $30 for shipping.  That’s right, $330 for the full six pith paintings, enough to complete a collection of Oriental Art. If you wish to pay by Paypal, simply click here: https://www.paypal.me/OldTreasures/330
